ABOUT THE TRIP

Running above one Europe’s most historic and spectacular lakes, crowned a UNESCO heritage site in 1979, you’re feet will beat across green pastures and rocky trails. With the lake on your doorstep its only right you treat yourself to a replenishing swim, and watch the sun rise and fall in a place that is truly spectacular. A running retreat like no other, this location is off the beaten track, but still within easy reach of Macedonia's spectacular monasteries and cultural sites.

itinerary

day 01

Arrive and settle in. Meet the team over an evening meal. We have a run through of the route and what to expect over the following days. Kit check and any other preparations.

 

day 02

Wake early to breakfast. Warm-up and head out on the longest run you'll undertake. We leave the accommodation and head up into the Galichitsa National Park before descending to the lakeshore for a swim and refreshing drink. We arrive back at base for a simple lunch and spend the afternoon at your leisure exploring the historical town of Ohrid or heading south to St Naum monastery. The team and guests reconvene over dinner.

 

day 03

After breakfast and a warm-up, we head out on a shorter and easier run. A circular route from the accommodation sees us back in time for lunch. Unwind ahead of the evening meal and further explore the area.

 

day 04

A quick stretch and easy morning run (1hr) will set you up for your journey - or treat yourself to an extra hour or two in bed. The team and guests share breakfast before heading off.

GETTING HERE

 

Fly:

Directly to Lake Ohrid, or into Tirana, Albania, or Skopje, with a selection of international and budget airlines. A host of car rental companies are available at good value prices.

 

Drive:

Ohrid Airport, Macedonia - Accommodation (25mins)

Tirana, Albania - Accommodation (2hrs)

Skopje, Macedonia - Accommodation (3hrs)

We recommend car sharing where possible and can put you in touch with fellow guests on request.

ACCOMMODATION

Situated just outside the main town of Ohrid, the accommodation is carefully chosen to provide a comfortable and sociable space, with easy .

 

With trail heads on the doorstep, and only 1km to the lake edge, this place provides an ideal base for a weekend of exploring. Meals will be nutritious and plentiful.

Within easy reach of some of Macedonia's cultural gems, why not extend your adventure and dip your toe in further to the country's rich history.

Please note that while ideal in lots of ways there is only one shared bathroom, no frills lodging keeps us out of town and right on the trail heads.
